Drag Queen Shopping, Makeup, Wigs, and Costumes
Starting the drag queen business?

I am very interested in being a drag queen and I just don’t know what to do to start it. I don’t have the clothes yet or the wigs, but I have the make-up and shoes!! I have been exposed to the drag world for quite some time here in Dallas, but I do not have very many friends in the business. I have had a lot of people tell me that I would look good as a woman and that makes me feel really good. I want to do this badly, but money is a problem, as I know that it takes an awful lot of money to start it. If you are a drag queen and are in the Dallas area, hit me up and give me some advice, please!!

Just make sure you tuck and tie your pee-pee so it won’t show past your hemline when you go ‘commando’!!!

I would say a good place to start is by getting some girlfriends to take you shopping and help you with the makeup. What do I know though, I’m a straight guy. Learn from those who’ve been doing it. Seems reasonable to me.

buy the clothes and wig, practice, practice with the make up for a drag queen it has to be a little over done (drag queens are different from crossdressers) oh dont forget shoes, the will need a lot of practice to be able to walk in them
most drag queens go for the tarty look

do you know any drag artists? they could advice you failing that try a bar or club that does entertainment and ask if they need a drag act.

make sure you have a routine well rehearsed and go4it

    good luck

if u are in a major city (atlanta, new york, san fran, l.a. etc.) there should be plenty of "costume shops" for you to pick from. go to the gay area of town and ask around. or you could go online.

Make up and shoes are a great start. Next step is empowering the queen within. Drags are incrediably hard working, some sing, some mime, some dance, some mince, the best ones are all engaging. Decide what skills you need to develop to create your character before you choose clothes and hair.

Well, if you are interested in becoming a drag queen and doing all the activities that drag queens do (hosting, being an emcee, performing, stand up, imersonation, etc) I recommend that you attend a few "drag nights" at your local gay club/bar. get a good feel of what they do. Often times if you are lucky enough, you may seek the guidance and counseling of a "drag mother" to show you the ropes as in purchasing the right accesories, wigs, outfits, etc. You don’t want to jump into something. Surround yourself with the world of Drag and immerse yourself in it. This should be a great teachable moment for you. Personally, I am not a drag queen, nor have I done drag, however, I have a very close friend who does and started out by doing all of his homework and leg work. Good luck!!!
